How Liverpool’s Libraries Are Helping To Tackle Loneliness

Liverpool Library Reading Friends

Loneliness has been a bigger problem than ever during the pandemic, and Liverpool Libraries have come up with an ingenious way to tackle it. Liverpool Council’s new ‘Reading Friends‘ scheme will enable people to connect virtually to chat about books, magazines, newspapers….anything really! You don’t even have to read anything if you don’t want to; you can just join in the chat.

Initially, the sessions will take place on Zoom or over the phone, with the intention of face-to-face meetings taking place once the pesky lockdown restrictions are lifted.

Reading Friends aims to improve people’s mental health by reaching out and making connections, and is part of Liverpool’s ‘Opening Closed Doors’ pledge as we emerge from the pandemic.

 Development Manager of Liverpool Libraries, Denise Jones says;

“I am pleased that Liverpool Libraries will be offering such a great programme to get people talking and connected with new people, through the power of reading and conversation.”

If you are interested in taking part, contact the friendly team via email (library.enquiries@liverpool.gov.uk ) or phone (0151 233 5835).
