How to Have Your Say on Liverpool’s Decarbonisation Plans

Renewable Energy

People across the Liverpool City Region have a chance to have their say on A Decarbonisation Strategy for the North of England after it went out to public consultation on 7th June. The strategy includes ambitious targets which aim to significantly reduce emissions from surface transport – aiming for near-zero emissions by 2045. The strategy is a game-changer as it is the first time that leaders in the North West have had the opportunity to speak with one voice about the climate emergency and how best to tackle it in the region.

The strategy has been developed by the region’s politicians and business leaders in conjunction with Transport for the North. They firmly believe that action on a regional level will produce the most effective outcomes. As surface transport is the most significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, it makes sense to focus on this area as a starting point. Improving the transport network and improving connectivity is also vital to lowering emissions.

Some of the main focus areas include; encouraging a shift towards more sustainable modes of travel, zero-emissions cars, alternative fuel sources, and de-carbonisation of the rail network and freight industry.

If you would like to have your say and respond to the consultation, it is open until the end of August. Find out more here;  www.transportforthenorth.com/decarbonisation/.
