A film documentary that features some of the colourful characters of Toxteth will have its premiere at the Royal Philharmonic Hall on September 1stAlmost Liverpool 8 is the brainchild of Shut Out The Light Films and is inspired by a photograph taken by acclaimed photojournalist Don MacMullin in the early 1970s. During that period, Toxteth was an area in decline, and MacMullins photo’s provided a snapshot into the lives of people living there at that time.

Almost Liverpool 8 shines a light on the same area but through the eyes of the people who live there today. The team behind the film (who are all local to the area) present a picture of a diverse and modern community full of colourful personalities. The film highlights the mix of cultures and ethnicities in the area and features artists and poets alongside beekeepers, photographers and urban griots (a local storyteller).

Toxteth is a frequently understood and overlooked area, and this film aims to redress the balance and showcase the beauty and diversity in this unique pocket of Liverpool. To book your tickets for the screening please visit;
