The Mersey Forest, through the Community Forest Trust, has been awarded over £1 Million to deliver it’s Community Forest Programme, ‘More From Trees’. The programme aims to improve biodiversity in Liverpool and Cheshire through various green projects. These include creating ‘green corridors’ in Liverpool City Centre, developing a nursery for native tree species, improving habitats for various animal species and improving natural flood management in two different areas of Cheshire.

Their task force will consist of re-trained military veterans and in addition to the development of green spaces they will also offer various nature-based activities with the aim of improving the health and well-being of the local community.

The grant forms part of a nationwide government fund called the Green Recovery Challenge Fund, in which £80 million is being distributed to projects the length and breadth of the country.

Mersey Forest Director, Paul Nolan says that the grant will;

Help us to deliver a portfolio of ambitious nature boosting projects across Merseyside and Cheshire.”

Sounds like pretty good news for the residents of Liverpool!
