The first combined independent market and artisan retail hub in the UK is due to open on the Wirral waterfront on 1st May. How cool is that? Independent Market @Woodside is Independent Wirral and Woodside Area CIC’s brainchild and will occupy the original dry dock area next to the ferry terminal in Birkenhead.
The market will consist of 20 purpose-built retail chalets, constructed by local firm Quirky Builders, which will allow local businesses to sell their products in a funky new setting. Oh, and it also has incredible views!
The project has been funded by the Governments Town Deal Accelerator Fund and supported by the Wirral Chamber of Commerce and Wirral Council. The Chief Executive of the Chamber of Commerce, Paula Basnett, said of the project;
“We have a very strong community of independent businesses, and we want to support their growth and provide great opportunities to maximise the advantage of our unique waterfront location.”
So get yourself down to the Wirral waterfront this summer!
