If you are searching for a peaceful way to spend an hour or so that doesn’t involve drinking or shopping, then why not head down to Liverpool Cathedral to cast your eyes on its stunning new art installation, Peace Doves.

The installation was initially intended to go on display last May but was delayed by the pandemic. Conceived by the artist Peter Walker, it consists of thousands of paper doves suspended from the cathedral roof with messages of peace and hope written on them by visitors to the Cathedral, local children and community groups.

The Dean of Liverpool, The Very Rev Dr Sue Jones, hopes that the installation will bring visitors to the Cathedral after what has been a troubling year;

“We look forward to welcoming people to the Cathedral, and we hope that you will encounter peace and the space to reflect on the past year.”

In addition to Peace Doves, the Cathedral is also playing host to two other installations; Angel Wings, a moving light projection and Peace to Ourselves, an interactive installation.

The installation opens on 21st May as part of Liverpool’s LightNight Event and run until 31st August. The installations are free to view, but you will need to book in advance. Slots for May can be booked now, and more slots will be released in due course.
