International Physical Theatre Festival Returns to Liverpool in June

Physical Fest Liverpool 2021

The UK’s only physical theatre festival will return to the city this summer thanks to Liverpool-based theatre company, Tmesis Theatre. Physical Fest will take place in June over eight days and include a mixture of live and online performances and workshops.

The venues for the live events encompass the whole city, including the Metropolitan Cathedral and Toxteth TV, to name a few. The stunning recently restored Albert Walker Hall at the Linacre Methodist Mission in Bootle will serve as the venue for an immersive piece of theatre by Tmesis Theatre called Memoria.

Other notable performances will include clown Lucy Hopkins with her show, Ceremony of Golden Truth and circus/dance artists Joli Vyann who will be performing outside (and for free!).

Tmesis Theatre prides itself on supporting female artists from the north and offer bursaries and mentoring to create new work for the festival. This year’s bursary award winners are dancer Kate Jackson and multi-disciplinary artist Gold Maria Akanabi.

Running alongside the live programme are numerous online workshops and events, including ‘Tree’s’ – an audio work by Jamie Wood, an International Art Clown who walked from Coventry to South Wales over ten days to retrace the journey of his ancestors.

Physical Fest will run from 25th June until the 2nd July. Visit the official website for more info.
