New Exhibition at The Walker Focuses on North West Makers

Walker Art Gallery Celebrating Craft Exhibition

The Walker Art Gallery is celebrating 50 years of craft collecting with a new exhibition showcasing North West makers. The exhibition will include work by established and emerging artists, including Jacob Chan, a finalist on Channel 4’s The Great Pottery Throwdown in 2020. The work of prominent North West sculptor Emma Rogers and potter Julia Carter Preston will also be displayed.

Past Present Future: Celebrating Craft is opening in Spring 2021 and will include a range of crafts from furniture and metalwork to studio ceramics. The exhibition aims to demonstrate how artists combine the skills of the past with forward-thinking ideas.

Some of the exhibits are being shown for the first time, including a collaboration between Emma Rodgers and Jacob Chan. Nicola Scott, Assistant Curator explains;

“The installation is a fantastical scene guarded by Chinese Foo Dogs, over-run by mischievous monkeys, and presided over by a regal wild peacock. “

Sounds interesting! The work will be shown in the Walkers Craft and Design Gallery when the gallery reopens in Spring.
